Suffering in Silence

As Told By: Anonymous

I have been suffering with hemorrhoids for over 45 years.

It began with my first pregnancy, which was twins. While all the other women were suffering from their stitches from forceps used to give birth, I was moaning and lay up in cotton balls soaked in witch hazel and ice on my backside.

I have had a blood clot removed to stop excruciating pain over five times. Now, the hemorrhoids don't cause blood clot; instead, they bleed almost to the point of hemorrhage. And the pain is still pretty bad.

I take stool softeners and eat plenty of fiber and all the right kinds of food to make sure I don't get constipated. It just takes once, and then I am in for weeks of treatment for pain, bleeding, and basically suffering in silence over such an embarrassing condition.

I am now about to have them completely removed. I am told that this kind of surgery is very painful, and since I am almost 70 years old, I am having reservations. Are there others out there who have had them removed at a late age? I would like to hear from them. Also, is the surgery less invasive now that everything else in the area of medicine is improving?

Thanks for your feedback,
